The relationship between Roman and his primary carer, Xaver Wirth, who, in the course of the film, teaches him how to work a chain saw, is touching yet unsettling and exhausting for both. They are forever approaching each other, always fearful that the all-too-fragile connection between them could break down. When Xaver unexpectedly dies, the question of an autist`s capacity for empathy unavoidably arises.
